AT&T has the iPhone and until just recently the smart phone Goliath was king of the castle. Back in late October, Verizon Wireless unleashed the Motorola Droid, a device that runs on the android platform. Another Android phone gaining a great deal of hype is the Nexus One by Google. Apple actually went after Google with a patent lawsuit. It's no secret that Apple's Steve Jobs and Google CEO Eric Schmidt aren't very fond of one another. The Google CEO was asked to step down from the Apple Board and an Anti-trust investigation was started. Schmidt said he wanted to "Kill the iPhone" and Jobs to offense to that saying something along the lines of,

This is a quick example of how I changed my iPhones Sim into a Micro-Sim that I could use in my iPad. In this video I ordered a free iPad Sim from O2 (UK) and used that as a template. Heres the question: "Should I get the iPhone 3G or the Droid 2.0?"

While both incredibly awesome smart phones, are great to have all at once. It is more likely we would only carry one by our side at all times.

Both the iPhone and the Droid have great things about each other. But when it comes down to it, its more of a personal preference when choosing our phones we use.

So, to answer the big question on which smart phone should you get, should be based on key points between both iPhone, and the Droid.

Key points to consider are, the Network the phone is established on, and the user experience on each phone.

The number one thing that should be considered is the service. The iPhone is married with AT&T, and the Droid is engaged with Verizon.

Verizon hands down has the best network service, with a greater 3G coverage than AT&T, and not to mention all those data hungry iPhones on AT&T sucking their GSM/HSPA towers dry daily. But, with AT&T's GSM/HSPA network is standard in mort parts of the world. Meaning, you can bring your iPhone when you travel and still be able to pick it up and make a call outside of the US.

Second thing to consider is the user experience. Okay, let me tell you, there is really no learning curve when you first pick up an iPhone. Although ringtones are readily available for purchase through Apple's iTunes store, it is also possible to create ringtones using any unprotected audio file. The license protection can be removed by burning the audio file to a CD and the re-extracting it, though this may or may not be legal depending on your country of residence as this would technically be considered bypassing license protection. iTunes files cannot be made into ringtones without defeating the license unless they are downloaded as ringtones.

The first step is to acquire the audio file and be sure it does not contain license protection. Load the iTunes application and drag the file over to iTunes, which we will use to convert the audio file into a media format that the iPhone can use.

After selecting the file, select "Convert Selection to AAC" from the "Advanced" menu. AAC is an acronym for Advanced Audio Coding and is the format that the Apple iPhone uses for its ringtones, though the file extension is not .aac.

If not, you may need to crop the file down to thirty seconds or less before converting it to a ringtone format. This needs to be done before converting to an AAC file in order to be effective, and it is advisable to delete any files but the original before restarting this process.. Also, every version of iTunes is a little bit different, so some of these steps may not be completely, literally accurate, though the methodology is sound.

Apple doesn't make it easy, but this is the method that I use to put ebooks I have from other sources onto the iPhone (without having to re-buy them).

Firstly, you'll need some things:
• A website (to host the eBooks)
• Stanza for iPhone (eBook reader
• Calibre (to convert books)

Iphone

The rough outline of what to do is get your original book onto your iPhone is as follows. Stanza can only read ePub and eReader files, so if your document isn't in one of these formats, you'll have to convert it. I use Calibre to convert the eBooks, then host them on your webpage, where Stanza will able to find and download them.

1) If your eBooks are already in ePub or eReader format, you can skip this step. If not, download and install Calibre (Here), open Calibre and drag your eBooks to be converted into the main window. Calibre will spend some time updating its library and then Right-Click the eBooks you want to convert and select covert.

NOTE: Make sure you've set the convert-to format as EPUB, else this will be a pointless step!

2) Once the books have finished converting, right click and 'Open file location', find the converted version of the ebook and upload these to your website.
NOTE: When you upload your books to your website, put them in a new directory, so that the files are accessible as a directory view.

3) You'll need an internet connection for this part. On your iPhone, start Stanza. Tap 'Get books' (tab on the bottom), Tap 'Shared' (tab on the top) and add a book source. Type the URL of the directory you made on your website.

4) Under the 'Shared' tab, you should see your book source, tap it and you will see the list of books you uploaded to your site. When you tap them, Stanza will ask you if you want to download the ebook into your library.

That's it! It's a shame that Apple haven't allowed applications to make iPhone directories available on the computer so you can just drag and drop your ebooks onto the iPhone, but it's good enough. At least it can be done!
